The Candle-Snuff Fungus ( Xylaria hypoxylon)


This particular-looking fungus look something like a Coral Fungus or even a lichen. It is colored like the wick of an extinguished candle. It consists of small, erect branches, which are almost cylindrical at first and are black with a white tip. Shape like reindeer or moose horns.



Classification: Class- Ascomycetes, Order- Xylariales, Family: Sphaeriaceae
Common Name: The Candle-Snuff Fungus
Scientific Name: Xylaria hypoxylon
Location: Bukit Larut, Taiping, Perak Darul Ridzuan
